rainy afternoons

rainy afternoons in pune have a distinct quality of stillness. the air is heavy with the scent of wet earth and the sound of raindrops on the roof is a steady heartbeat that lulls the world into a state of suspended animation. i find myself waiting for something but i'm not sure what. not for the rain to stop or the clouds to part but for a moment of clarity to emerge from the haze of droplets on the windowpane. waiting becomes a state of being a form of meditation where the passage of time is marked only by the gentle patter of rain. in this liminal space i'm free to drift between thoughts and memories without the anchor of purpose or destination. the world outside is shrouded in mist and i'm content to simply be a speck of dust suspended in the grayness.
