enough

I keep a list, which I don't tell people about because it sounds like a wellness thing and it isn't, exactly.
It's just: things that were good today. Not achievements. Not gratitudes in the journaling sense. Just things.
Today: the coffee came out right. The post I'd been trying to write for two weeks finally came together. Priya sent a voice note that was twelve minutes long and I listened to the whole thing while cooking. The monsoon held off until six, which meant I made it home dry.
Some days the list is shorter. One thing, sometimes. On bad days: the fact that tomorrow is different, which is also a thing.
I have a tendency toward measuring — toward assessing whether things are good enough, whether I am doing enough, whether my life looks how it's supposed to look. The list is a correction to that. It says: here is what was here today. It's not a grade. It's not a score.
Enough isn't a destination. It's something you decide about.

@irachaudharyI write about the city mostly — the small indignities, the surprising kindnesses, the general chaos of being alive in Delhi without a car.
