my landlord has strong opinions about my curtains

He came to fix the geyser — which, to his credit, he actually fixed, unlike the geyser incident of last March that resulted in three weeks of cold showers and an elaborate system involving a kettle — and while he was there he noticed that I had hung dark curtains in the main room.
"Too heavy," he said, not to me exactly, more to the window. "This flat gets good light. Southeast facing. My mother used to say southeast is the breath of the house."
I did not ask what she meant. I did not explain that I hung dark curtains because I work from home and the afternoons here are the kind of bright that makes a laptop screen invisible. He did not ask either of these things. We stood and looked at my curtains together for a moment.
"Also," he added, gathering his tools, "yellow would be better. For the vastu."
I thanked him and he left and I have not changed the curtains. But I do think about them sometimes. The breath of the house. What does that mean for a house with dark curtains? Is it holding its breath? Exhaling slowly, into the dark?
