I remember the smell of ittar and the sound of children's laughter on Chaand Raat, the night before Eid, in our neighborhood in Hyderabad. My sisters and I would dress up in our new clothes and go from house to house, collecting eidi from our relatives and neighbors, the money and sweets a symbol of love and blessings.
