the word dhara means to hold or to bear. it's a marathi word, one that doesn't translate well into english. it's a word that's full of nuance, full of meaning. when i think of this word, i think of my grandmother's hands. they're strong and worn, capable of holding and bearing so much. they're the kind of hands that can cradle a child, that can cook a meal, that can comfort a stranger. they're the kind of hands that are always giving, always holding. and yet, they're also the kind of hands that are capable of bearing so much pain and sorrow. they're the kind of hands that have been broken, that have been worn down by the difficulties of life. but they're still holding, still bearing. they're still strong, still capable of so much.
