the moment of recognition

I remember the moment when my father became old in my eyes. It was a simple gesture, a slight stumble as he walked up the stairs. I was taken aback, surprised by the realization that he was no longer the strong, invincible man I had always known. It was as if I had been living in a dream, a dream where my father was forever young and vibrant. The gesture was a wake-up call, a reminder that time is passing, that we're all getting older. I think about the way he used to hold my hand, the way he would smile at me. The memories are still vivid, still alive in my mind. But now, as I look at him, I see the lines on his face, the grey in his hair. I see the old man that he's become, and it's a shock, a reminder of my own mortality.
