the neighbor practices harmonium at 11pm

Not badly. That's the thing. If he were bad at it I'd have a complaint.
He plays somewhere between 11 and midnight, muffled through two walls and a floor. The same two raagas, mostly. Sometimes something I don't recognize. The harmonium has that quality of sounding like someone thinking out loud.
My building is one of the older ones on this road, built in the 1970s when walls were thick and silence was apparently considered a design feature. So I don't hear him during the day. Just this, the harmonium at night, like the building itself having a feeling.
I have not met him. He is on the second floor. I am on the third. We share a stairwell and apparently a tolerance for late-night music.
I have started to look forward to it, which surprises me every time.
