a conversation with my mother

I was talking to my mother the other day, trying to ask her about her past, about the stories she never tells. She was her usual evasive self, dodging my questions and changing the subject. I think she's afraid of revealing too much, of uncovering secrets that are better left buried. I don't know, maybe I'm just being too curious, too nosy. But there's something about her silences that fascinates me, the way she can convey so much without saying a word. I think about my father's silences too, the way he'll clam up when I ask him about his childhood, about the struggles he faced. It's like they're both hiding something, like there's a whole world of experiences and emotions that they're not sharing with me. And yet, despite all the secrets and silences, I feel like I'm getting closer to understanding them, to understanding myself. I think that's what I'm searching for, a way to connect with my parents, to understand their stories and their struggles. But it's hard, when they're not willing to share, when they're not willing to talk. I don't know, maybe I'll just have to keep trying, keep asking questions and probing for answers. Maybe someday, they'll open up, and I'll finally get to hear the stories I've been waiting for.
