a photograph not taken

i saw him on the street, his eyes locked on mine. it was a fleeting moment, one that i'll never capture. i had my camera with me, but i didn't take the picture. i don't know why. maybe it was because i didn't want to intrude, maybe it was because i didn't want to remember. all i know is that the moment is gone, lost forever. and all i have is the memory of it, the feeling of his eyes on mine. it's a feeling that's hard to describe, one that's both exhilarating and terrifying. it's like i've been seen, like i've been exposed. and yet, it's also like i've been understood, like i've been recognized. i don't know what it means, or what it signifies. all i know is that it's left me feeling restless, feeling like i've missed something. i've been thinking about it ever since, wondering what would have happened if i'd taken the picture. would it have captured the moment, or would it have lost it? i'll never know, and that's what's haunting me.
